Urspace is a portfolio builder for a new generation of makers and creators. Our platform is a career hub providing young professionals with a dynamic portfolio builder and recruiting tools to get connected to open jobs. Urspace automatically pulls information from LinkedIn and Github to generate a personal website, blog, and resume - instantly.

There has never been a more important time than now to represent yourself online. Showcasing your portfolio, as someone getting a job in tech, allows you to efficiently communicate your skills and experiences.

As a student, having to balance working on outside projects or jobs while trying to get through the overwhelming load of school is hard enough. On top of that, we saw our peers spending upwards of 30-40 hours creating their own personal websites.

With urspace, we’ve cut down the time to create a presentable website. Instead of the 30-40 hours it used to take, 20 minutes to an hour of work will give you something ready to share with recruiters. This paired with the ability easily update your work experience & projects is a no brainer for students.

Our mission is to supercharge the portfolio making process so students can spend less time building portfolios/personal websites and more time on what goes into them.

The Idea

The idea for urspace came up when Don was applying for his own summer internships/full time jobs. He spent hours trying to prepare a website for companies that would impress them. While building his site, he realized he was just copying and pasting the same information (from his LinkedIn, Github, resume, etc) to his new personal website. Frustrated that there was a solution to do this instantly, Don starting building urspace (and here we are!).

We've all recently graduated college (except Don, he dropped out of rit C:) but are all working on urspace every free hour we have outside of our current jobs.

Our Numbers

Urspace has been in development for 2 years but only live for five months. In five months, we've helped 2,000+ students/jobseekers create websites, resumes, and blogs - that number is growing everyday! We are currently seeing a 60% month over month growth in signups every month. Urspace has also helped students get jobs at great companies like Facebook, Google, and Apple.

We've had two really successful ProductHunt launches - garnering us #2 and #3 "Product of the Day" and over 1,100 upvotes between our projects.

Things we are proud of

In 5 days, we launched a job board that compiled 1300 handpicked companies that were still hiring through COVID-19. Ten thousand jobseekers used this job board!

After seeing the great response from jobseekers on our job board - we realized there was something wrong. There was a huge imbalance of companies that are hiring, to students actually looking for jobs. We went back to the drawing board and spent two weeks building a curriculum, getting sponsors, and created our fellowship program - Urspace Labs. Urspace Labs took 31 students that were out of jobs due to COVID-19 and is giving them the skills that they would have learned an internship. We created teams of 4 (PM, Designer, 2 Engineers) and are mentoring them through building a product. Teams will have launched a product and have pitched them to VCs & hiring managers by the end of the program. Urspace labs is currently supported by Robinhood, Sidebench, and Blackstone Launchpad powered by Techstars.

100% of our revenue for the month of June is being donated to the NAACP legal defense fund and Black Girls Code.

We believe in speaking up and supporting causes that urspace can help out with. Super proud of the initiatives we have taken as a team!
